Survey Subject: Internet and screen usage among youth

Methodology: A survey was conducted with about twenty individuals working with young people.

Key Findings

Planned Interventions:

  1. Prevention and Regulation: Prevention sessions and regulation of screen time.
  2. School Activities: Organizing screen-free weeks and in-class interventions.
  3. Conferences and Workshops: Awareness through conferences, debates, and interactive workshops.
  4. Parental Involvement: Sensitization actions and information sessions for parents.

Preferred Tools for Educating Youth:

  1. Posters and Comics: Use of educational posters and comics.
  2. Digital Supports: Videos, online games, and canva for presentations.
  3. Diverse Interventions: Board games, classroom discussions, and varied documentary sources.

Main Challenges Faced:

  1. Lack of Time: Limited time to prepare and conduct meaningful actions.
  2. Misinformation: Difficulty countering erroneous information online.
  3. Health Issues: Increased sedentary lifestyle and reduced physical activity.
  4. Attention and Concentration: Difficulty for youth to focus on long activities and verify information accuracy.

Contributions to Urban Social Development Worldwide

In 2021, despite travel restrictions, IRDSU launched « From Here and Elsewhere, DSU Goes Around the World, » an innovative initiative providing a platform for international DSU experts to share their expertise and significant projects. The event featured diverse urban social development initiatives from Ouagadougou to Riga and Medellin to Brussels. This first edition encouraged crucial reflections on citizen engagement, public-private collaboration, and the importance of common goods, laying the groundwork for ongoing dialogue on these themes
